    Are you in this situation?

Are you getting tired of your own country's food sometimes and want to try Chinese and other countries' food?

Yummy, that's one thing I really miss in China, I can't get real Mexican food in my city. I forgot to put that on the list of stuff in my hometown - great Mexican food too!

I like Chinese food, especially 麻辣的 Chongqing or Sichuan cousine. But I also enjoy (at least twice or thrice a month) relatively OK German food in one of the restaurant in "my" city, which is similar to my home country.
However I try to avoid other "foreign" restaurants as they tend to provide really bad food...
Unlike many others I hate Shanghai sweetish and Guangdong natural taste food (with exception of Guangzhou duck with plum souce - delicious!)...
Northern garlic flavored taste is fine with me Smile

Vicky, the difference is in most places outside of China there's no "my country's food." People regularly eat food that originated from all over the world. It's really annoying when people make ridiculous generalizations like "Americans eat hamburgers so that is American food." My family lives in a small town of around 20,000 people and in that town there is an Indian restaurant, two Thai restaurants, 3 Chinese restaurants, 2 Japanese restaurants, several pizza/pasta Italian type restaurants, a British pub, an Irish pub, a Greek restaurant, several seafood restaurants, a vegan restaurant, and a Jamaican style BBQ restaurant just to name a few. There are multiple supermarkets selling foods from all over the world. Oh yea, there are also places serving primarily hamburgers and fries or "American food" if that's what you want to call it. It's not like like in China where people categorize Chinese food versus foreign food. When I go to the Indian restaurant or buy hummus at the local supermarket, I'm not thinking about where it originated from. I'm just used to eating a diverse diet. So no, I never get tired of "my country's" cuisine because there's really no such thing.
